Being at one with the journalist Gerassimos Tsouleas, we quote the editorial that appeared with the title "ΕΝΑΡΓΕΙΑ"* at the bimonthly edition "ΤΟ ΑΘΛΟΝ". This excellent edition is – among others – a very good effort for the diffusion of the Olympic Spirit of the Association of Friends of the Olympic Spirit.
The Olympic Year 2004 has come to an end. Well, what are we going to do without the Olympic Year? The Games of Athens have served as an alibi for the lazy people who have put off many of their duties claiming that they were obliged to give priority to the preparations for the great celebration!
We intend to insist (till the next Olympic Games of Peking, if God enables us) to use the expired Olympic Year as a continuous source of teaching and we have an additional right to do so: we have never used our obligations to have “the best possible Games” as an alibi. Right the contrary!
So we intend to keep drawing conclusions. Sometimes these conclusions turn to be teaching, revealing some of our oppressed abilities, a pressure which has almost persuaded us that we are bound to remain last!
However, they are likely to be awakening conclusions, conclusions – alarms that, seen from the right point of view, will show us clearly what we have to improve, if we want to progress as a country, as a nation, as social classes, institutions, individuals.
A number of observations have shown today that there are many things to be straightened as far as the sports journalism is concerned, not only because this is an obligation towards the sports fans, but also because it has to progress, gaining status and respect.
It is urgent to make youths better than us. There is no other way to progress.
